Bases it's decisions upon Christ's statement that the whole of the law was summoned by the command that we ought to love our neighbour. In the greatest commandment, one of the Pharisees tested him as to what was the greatest commandment, he replied 'love the lord your god with all your heart and with all your soul and mind' this is the greatest- the second greatest is- 'love your neighbour as yourself' IT IS FLEXIBLE As opposed to a legalistic, who follows the absolutes, and believes they must tell the truth could one day be faced with a murderer who wanted to find out where their wife was, they would be in an impossible position and most likely go against their approach.

The biggest issue is that there will always be a dispute as to what is the most loving action and what this actually means in practice, everyone is subjective and have their own interpretations of different things and could see one thing as loving and another not that someone else may object. If two people using this system of ethics came to opposite conclusions as to what they should do, there is no way there dilemma could be solved because it rejects the absolute rules that could guide their actions.

It allows for flexibility which may make it popular because lots of ethical issues are individual and require different responses to different situations. But it could also be seen as too idealistic, love is subjective and not everyone knows what constitutes a loving act. Discarding absolute laws would not work in society.

People like to wallow or cower in the security of the law. Every man must decide for himself according to his own estimate of conditions and consequences … 2. At the time it was written it seemed to make some radical claims such as that it is not wrong to have extramarital sex, to be homosexual, or to have an abortion. It is badly argued, idiosyncratic and rehashes old ideas. However, the Pharisees tell him off because he has performed this healing on the Sabbath day and the Jewish law says that no one can work on the Sabbath. Fletcher has in mind a simple minded deontologist who holds that actions are right and wrong irrespective of the consequences.

So, here it is. Relativism is the theory which stated that there are no absolute truths; truth is relative to the subject and can vary from person to person and from society to society. There are no universally valid moral principles and so there is no one true morality. All principles and values are relative to a particular culture and age. Truth is relative. Certain actions are intrinsically right or wrong right or wrong in themselves.
