This board maintains the electrical pathways that enable all other components to communicate with each other. The processor is usually the largest chip on the system board and can be identified generally because it often has a heat sink or fan located on top of it. Expansion slots come in different varieties on systems today, and it is extremely important to understand the benefits of each type.
All of these devices connected to the motherboard need to get power from somewhere, so the power supply is connected to the motherboard, which supplies power to the board and its components. CMOS is a listing of system components, such as the size of the hard disk that is installed in the computer, the amount of RAM, and the resources used by the serial and parallel ports. The ISA bus architecture had a speed of 8 MHz, which is extremely slow when looking at the speed of processors and other system components today.
One of the major benefits of PCI is that it is a plug and play architecture. The performance gain from the AGP port not only comes from the increase in speed, but also the fact that the AGP bus has a direct path to the processor so that information travels quickly from the processor to the AGP card.

10 Parts of a Motherboard and Their Function
Alternatively referred to as the mb , mainboard , mboard , mobo , mobd , backplane board , base board , main circuit board , planar board , system board , or a logic board on Apple computers. The motherboard is a printed circuit board and foundation of a computer that is the biggest board in a computer chassis. It allocates power and allows communication to and between the CPU , RAM , and all other computer hardware components. A motherboard provides connectivity between the hardware components of a computer, like the processor CPU , memory RAM , hard drive , and video card. There are multiple types of motherboards, designed to fit different types and sizes of computers. Each type of motherboard is designed to work with specific types of processors and memory, so they don't work with every processor and type of memory.
Last updated on Nov 9, by Shaun Conroy. Have you ever thought to yourself, how are motherboards made? Or pondered how they actually work and what makes a motherboard tick? Well, if you have, you are in the right place. We are also going to give you a few pointers to help you spot a good motherboard , too, so let's get into it.
A motherboard also called mainboard , main circuit board , system board , baseboard , planar board , logic board , or mobo is the main printed circuit board PCB in general-purpose computers and other expandable systems. It holds and allows communication between many of the crucial electronic components of a system, such as the central processing unit CPU and memory , and provides connectors for other peripherals. Motherboard means specifically a PCB with expansion capabilities. As the name suggests, this board is often referred to as the "mother" of all components attached to it, which often include peripherals, interface cards, and daughtercards : sound cards , video cards , network cards , host bus adapters , TV tuner cards , IEEE cards; and a variety of other custom components. Similarly, the term mainboard describes a device with a single board and no additional expansions or capability, such as controlling boards in laser printers, television sets, washing machines, mobile phones, and other embedded systems with limited expansion abilities.
PARTS AND FUNCTIONS OF MOTHERBOARD
A motherboard acts as a platform for establishing connections between various components that are required to run our computer smoothly. In other words, a motherboard can also be defined as the basic building block of a computer. As you might know, a standard laptop or a desktop computer is made up of different things such as the CPU, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and much more. All these components talk to each other via common hardware known as the motherboard or simply mobo.
Patrick, a computer technician, is a dedicated writer who wishes to make the world better by informing individuals who seek more knowledge. The main printed circuit board in a computer is known as the motherboard. Other names for this central computer unit are system board, mainboard, or printed wired board PWB.
