Classification of surveying:. According to the instruments used, the surveying is classifieds follows:. Instruments used for chain surveying:. The various instruments used in chain surveying are as follows. Chains are used to measure horizontal distances. Chains are formed of straight links of galvanized mild steel wire called links. The ends of each link are bent into a loop hand connected together by means of three oval rings which afford flexibility to the chain.

Surveying is a technique, profession and science of accurately determining the three dimensional position of points, the distance and angle between them. These points are usually on the surface of the earth and they are often used to establish land maps and boundaries for ownership. Primary division of survey. Plane Surveying: It is that type of surveying in which the mean surface of the earth is considered as a plane and the spheroidal shape is neglected, all the triangles formed by survey lines are considered as plane triangles.

Surveying is a significant element for developing the human environment around us. It is the process or science of measuring and determining the 3D positions of specific points and distances on the surface and also the angles between them. When it comes to measuring angles, compass surveying is a must. Compass surveying is an important branch of surveying which is usually adopted in determining the position of an object both by angular and linear measurements. Here angular measurements are taken using a compass and linear measurements are determined using chain or tape.

This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves. Download preview PDF. Download book PDF.

Chain Surveying and Compass Surveying

A prismatic compass is a navigation and surveying instrument which is extensively used to find out the bearing of the traversing and included angles between them, waypoints an endpoint of the lcourse and direction. The compass calculates bearings of lines with respect to magnetic needle. The included angles can then be calculated using suitable formulas in case of clockwise and anti-clockwise traverse respectively. The name Prismatic compass is given to it because it essentially consists of a prism which is used for taking observations more accurately. Least count means the minimum value that an instrument can read which is 30 minutes in case of prismatic compass.
